Top Literary Guilty Pleasure Authors

Note: this is The Literary Pursuit’s 100th post!

According to a Book Costa Awards survey, 85% of readers have a secret guilty pleasure author they love to read but too ashamed to admit. The top five are:

1. Stephen King
2. J.K. Rowling
3. John Grisham/Dan Brown
4. Danielle Steele/Catherine Cookson
5. Terry Pratchett

So now we know why they’re often dissed and criticised – it’s a kind of love-hate relationship not unlike in the movies, where the guy and the girl, so obviously attracted to each other and yet at the same time are repulsed too and thus the denial of their attraction.

the book covers looks like fun! hehe 🙂

sulz: they don’t just look fun, they are! but i think your secret guilty pleasure author will definitely be exposed by using this cover because everyone will notice it and want to look at it, and while they’re doing that, they’d also want to know what book you’re reading!

What a great idea!! I love the jackets. I read a lot of different stuff and have read something by all but one of the authors on the list!!! hehe.

Most books come with paper jackets here(Japan)…Well they always ask you if you want one. People are really concerned about privacy I guess, and since most reading is done on public transport it makes sence I guess….It also lets those reading porn comics (Trust me, it happens!) get away with it without too many strange stares!

sulz: they are lovely, aren’t they? it’s the japanese culture, i guess, to respect privacy in all matters, including what one reads! in malaysia, we don’t get any dust jackets unless it’s already sold with the hardcover itself, and those kinds aren’t exactly discreet.
